CALL FOR PAPERS

12th International Symposium on Boat and Ship Archaeology (ISBSA 12)
İstanbul, 12-16 October, 2009.

Between Continents

The Programme Committee of the International Symposium on Boat and Ship Archaeology welcomes submissions for papers as well as posters for the 12th symposium, to be held in İstanbul, from 12-16 October, 2009. Submissions should consist of a title as well as an abstract of about 300 words submitted online. Each applicant is permitted to send one abstract. The deadline for submissions is February 1, 2009.

Throughout history, the exchange of goods and culture between east and west, north and south was realized in the waters off the Anatolian coasts, with the Black Sea to the north, the Sea of Marmara to the north-west, the Aegean Sea to the west and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. Consequently, we would like to invite participants to focus on the four seas and address their pivotal role not only for Turkey but also for the rest of the world.

We would like to propose as a main theme:
-Evolution and changes in shipbuilding in the eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea.

Apart from the main theme, we also encourage papers on the following subjects:
- Studies in ship construction,
- Research methods,
- Experimental nautical archaeology,
- Recent discoveries from all regions and periods.

The official language of the conference will be English.
